Hotel Covington, KY
Interiors and hospitality photography for the Hotel Covington, a boutique hotel located in Covington, KY.
The brand new 114-room boutique hotel was born from the renovation of the Coppin’s Department store, originally built in 1907 and a former shopping staple in Northern Kentucky. The interior design pays homage to the buildings past while custom lighting, millwork and bespoke furniture ensures the hotel's contemporary relevance. a cohesive color story and concept is woven throughout the building from the front entrance to the courtyard, guest rooms and ballroom.
This photography assignment at Hotel Covington focused on capturing the character of the property through a careful balance of atmosphere, architecture, and interior detail. From the restored historic lobby to the layered textures of the guest spaces, the images highlight how light, materials, and spatial composition define the boutique hotel experience. The approach combines wide frames that establish context with quieter detail shots, allowing the interiors to unfold visually and reflect the hotel’s sense of place within Covington, Kentucky.
The main dining room of Coppin’s, the hotel restaurant (named for the original department store) that serves up seasonally driven American fare, much of it locally sourced.
Donna Salyers’ Fabulous-Furs adorn the all-custom fixtures and furniture in every room.
All art in the rooms comes from local artists. Twenty percent of the rooms are painted aubergine, navy, or black—colors that historically signified wealth in Covington.
Local designer Gina Tesnar of Reign Studio led the brand design for the hotel, part of which included creating several patterns you’ll see throughout the hotel—like this one inspired by the Roebling bridge.
Photographed as part of an ongoing exploration of hotel photography and hospitality interior design photography, this project aligns with my hospitality-focused work developed through Atelier Gaudet, a studio dedicated to documenting hotels and designed spaces. The goal was to create imagery that supports both editorial storytelling and brand identity, showing how hospitality photography can communicate experience, design intent, and the rhythm of a space beyond purely architectural documentation.
